Maika was founded in 2009 with a compassionate vision to create a safe, culturally sensitive shelter for South Asian women and children in crisis situations.

In 2010, Maika was formally incorporated as a nonprofit organization under IRS code 501(c)(3), strengthening our mission to serve vulnerable immigrant families.

As immigrant women from diverse communities reached out for help, we expanded our support services beyond shelter to address domestic violence and abuse.

We began assisting women with no extended family support, limited English skills, uncertain immigration status, and fears for their safety.

Driven by dedicated volunteers, Maika Inc. is a community-powered support system for vulnerable women and children. With compassion and commitment, we help survivors of abuse rebuild their lives with safety, dignity, and hope.

Maika Inc. supports women and children regardless of immigration status or faith. We assist survivors who have fled — or are preparing to flee — abusive situations.
Through culturally sensitive support, safe housing connections, counseling access, and language assistance, our volunteers help families rebuild their lives with safety, dignity, and hope.
Maika, Inc. provides immigrant women and children experiencing domestic abuse with access to safe shelters and essential support services. We focus on South Asian and Middle Eastern communities while assisting all backgrounds. Our services help survivors gain independence through emergency shelter, transitional housing, counseling, education, legal aid, and job search support, ensuring safety, empowerment, and long-term well-being.
To prevent and end domestic violence and abuse across all communities, Maika develops culturally sensitive strategies that raise awareness, educate adults about healthy relationships, and highlight the long-term impact on children. We foster support systems through community and religious leaders, overcome cultural and language barriers, empower women toward independence, and guide public services to be more accessible and culturally responsive.
